Mulch or Rocks, which way to go? Rocks show a better success rate at weed prevention than mulch and do not have to be applied year after year. However, stones aren't the perfect solution for gardens that may get a lot of sun because they can hold more heat than mulch.  In spring and summer, when plants are growing rapidly and conditions are heating up, it's particularly important to mulch your garden because it prevents the soil from drying out. It also allows plants to put their roots down deep so you don't need to water as often in addition to suppressing weeds. The choice is a personal preference.
