It all started in 1990. Alice and Leonard Weiland had owned the County Market. Alice and Debbie (her daughter) decided that a greenhouse would make a great addition. What they didn't know was how successful they would be. In 2013 County Market was sold but the greenhouse needed a different location to continue.  Debbie had some extra room in her yard and decided that would be the new home for Deb and Alice's Hosta Hut & Greenhouse.  Deb and Alice ran the greenhouse together until the passing of Alice in Feb. of  2020. Debbie's daughter Nicole and her husband Scott moved back to Hillsboro after selling their bed and breakfast in Oshkosh, WI April 2021, just in time for the upcoming greenhouse season. After one season of Debbie and Nicole working together, Debbie decided she would like more time to travel and Nicole and her husband were looking to take on a new adventure.  Nicole and Scott feel blessed that Debbie still wants to help, knowing that we have so much yet to learn. With new owners, comes our new name. We feel incredibly lucky that we get to do what we love. We look forward to meeting you and experiencing the new Hillsboro Hosta & Greenhouse. 3 generations for HHG

Geiger Key, Key West FL Nicole and Scot

Nicole and Scott are the new owners, (year 2 now).  Nicole is working hard at learning the years of knowledge that Debbie has acquired and bringing in a fresh and exciting new experience.  This wouldn't be possible without Scott. He has been busy doing the heavy lifting/moving and maintenance around the property.  We both look forward to meeting and working with you. Please don't hesitate to let us know if you are looking for something that we do not offer. We will do our best to bring in whatever we can get our hands on.

Previous Owner, Debbie Winchel

Previous Owner

Debbie may be the previous owner but we are so glad she is still around to answer questions and give advice. Debbie brings years of experience that she is passing down to her daughter.  Stop in and say hi. We know she would love to see you.

Lois Turnipseed

Lois is just like family and we couldn't be happier that she is a part of ours. Lois has been working at the greenhouse full-time for 7+ years. When new deliveries come in for the season, Lois is giddy with excitement as she enjoys the variety of all the flowers, hostas and colorful yard art.

Melanie, Staff

Melanie has also worked at the greenhouse for 7+ years but you will probably only see her on Saturdays as she is a very busy lady. She loves helping customers with different flower combinations if you are in need of assistance. Lillies are her favorite flower, but she just wishes they would bloom a little longer.  As do we all Melanie.

Roxanne, Staff

Roxanne is new to the greenhouse this year, but we think you may recognize her. Though she has been living in Hillsboro, she has worked out of town for the last 16 years. Recently retired, she is reacquainting herself with old friends and looking forward to being outdoors. She enjoys reading, walking, and the changing seasons of Wisconsin.

Emily has decided to help us out on the weekends this year as she is a pretty busy girl being a new mom and finishing up her bachelor's degree in biology in LaCrosse. She loves chrysanthemums, being outside with her puppies, her daughter (when it’s warm) and getting her hands dirty.
